Sally’s interest in weaving goes back 50 years to high school in Denver. She then raised sheep and learned to spin yarn and dye with natural dyestuffs on a communal farm in NY State.  She studied painting and drawing with Alfred University professor emeritus, Clara Katherine Nelson. Ms. Nelson emphasized the use of color to create space in 2-dimensions. Sally went on to study textile design at the Rhode Island School of Design. After graduation, in 1986, she was the Product Development Manager at Donghia Textiles in New York City until 1989. For 15 years she was a freelance textile designer of jacquard woven upholstery fabric for Jack Lenor Larsen, Unika Vaev, and Donghia among others. She later taught art in elementary school and continued handweaving. She now concentrates on wedge weave tapestry to explore color, form and space - elements that go back to the teachings of C.K. Nelson. Wedge weave and precise hand-dyeing create balanced yet dynamic compositions. Each piece raises questions that lead to the next tapestry.
